We start with a scenic train ride from Vienna to Krems an der Donau, the gateway to the Wachau Valley. From there, we hop on bikes and follow a flat, well-marked path along the Danube through terraced vineyards and small wine-growing villages — no serious cycling experience required. Along the way, we stop at family-run wineries to taste some of the region’s renowned wines while our guide shares the history behind the valley, its castles and its centuries-old winemaking tradition.

How the Day Unfolds

1. We meet at our office in Vienna and travel together by train to Krems.
2. From Krems, we cycle along the Danube to the medieval village of Dürnstein for our first wine tasting, followed by a visit to the ruins of Dürnstein Castle overlooking the town.
3. Next, we ride on to Weissenkirchen for a second wine tasting at a local, family-owned wine tavern.
4. Optional: stop for lunch at a traditional restaurant featuring regional specialities before cycling back toward Krems, with the option of a third tasting or a swim in the Danube, weather permitting.
5. We return to Krems and take the train back to Vienna at the end of the day.
