“100% RECOMMENDED! Our tour with Katharina was even better than we had hoped for. Music, history, culinary tips, an incredible depth of knowledge with so many fascinating details, all presented with great humor. Extremely entertaining from start to finish. Everyone should do this on their first day i…”
“Elizabeth was amazing! Very interesting tour which kept our interest the whole time despite the freezing cold on that day! Elizabeth explained the history of Vienna focusing on key landmarks with humor. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for the wonderful experience Elizabeth!”
“Filip was a fantastic guide; friendly, informative and had some lovely local stories to tell which totally enhanced the tour. We visited several markets which we would never have found ourselves - all different with great atmosphere. We just loved the whole evening - so thanks!”
“We booked the street art graffiti tour, it was perfect with a good English speaking guide , with lots of knowledge about the street art in Vienna. We really enjoyed it and highly recommend. If you do the tour in winter time. Bring warm clothes”
“A truly wonderful and informative experience. We were a group of Viennese locals, and everyone was pleasantly surprised by how little we actually know about our own city, or how much we simply take for granted.”
“Tour with Stefan, not exactly the usual boring type of guide!! Instead, he is a real actor, he is able to gain people's attention for the whole trip using his great sense of humor, his storytelling ability, but also his body language. The tour itself is interesting and totally worth it!”

Good to know before your Vienna trip
Ten years of showing more than a million guests around Vienna – here is what we tell our friends.
Start with a walking tour
The historic centre (1st district) is compact and walkable. A 2-hour tour on day one gives you the map, the history and the best tips for the rest of your stay.
Getting around
U-Bahn, trams and buses run often and late; one ticket covers them all. Within the Ring you will walk most of the time.
Tipping in Vienna
In cafés and restaurants round up or add about 10%. On free walking tours you tip your guide at the end – most guests give €15–20.
Best season
Spring and autumn are mild and lively; from mid-November the city is all Christmas markets, lights and mulled wine. Tours run all year.

Questions about our Vienna tours
How do free walking tours in Vienna work?

Where does the Prime Tours free walking tour start?
The Free Walking Tour Vienna starts at Helmut-Zilk-Platz in the 1st district (next to the Albertina and the Vienna State Opera), by the Memorial against War and Fascism. Look for the yellow PRIME TOURS umbrella.
Which languages are the free tours in?
The Free Walking Tour Vienna runs in English, Spanish, German and Italian. The Vienna Like a Local hidden-gems tour also runs in English, Spanish, Italian and German. The next departures in your language are shown at the top of this page.
Do I need to book a free tour in advance?
Yes, please reserve – it is free and secures your spot, as tours fill up in high season and at Christmas. Groups of up to 10 can book online; for larger groups we recommend a private tour.
When are the Christmas Market Tours in 2026?
The Christmas Market Tour with tastings runs daily from 15 November to 28 December 2026, at 15:00 and 17:00. The Schönbrunn Christmas Market Tour runs daily at 16:00 in the same period. Private Christmas tours are available at times of your choice.

What is included in the Vienna Pub Crawl?
The Pub Crawl starts at 9 pm at Dick Mack's Pub, Marc-Aurel-Straße 7, and lasts about 4 hours. A free drink at every stop, shot rounds and skip-the-line club entry are included. It costs €22 (non-refundable) or €29 (refundable); guests must be 18+.
Can you organise private tours, team events or school trips?
Yes. We tailor private tours, team building, corporate events, Christmas parties, school and university trips and celebrations for groups of any size, in many languages. A private guide in Vienna starts at €360 for 2 hours per group. Send your request with the form on this page.
Do tours run in bad weather?
Yes, all tours run in rain, snow and cold, unless the weather is dangerous. In that case we contact you and offer a new date or a refund. Bring good shoes and, in winter, warm layers.
Who is Prime Tours?
Prime Tours is a locally owned Vienna tour company (LoeX Local Experience GmbH), founded in 2016 as the first free walking tour in Vienna. More than one million guests have joined our tours, all led by licensed local guides. We also run the SANDEMANs New Europe tours in Vienna.
Locally owned. Made in Vienna since 2016.
In 2016 we brought the free walking tour to Vienna for the first time. Ten years later we are still an independent Vienna team – not a franchise or a booking platform – and every tour is led by a licensed local guide who loves this city.
